Texas Camp Floor Set Up / Tear Down
A note from the Floor Czars:
To the tune of Auld Lang Syne…
Should all floor knowledge be forgot
And never come to mind?
It’s been three years since it’s been done
But surely we’ll be fine(?)
Oh surely we’ll be fine, my dears,
Our efforts we’ll combine,
To haul, and fix, and lay it out,
So we can dance, and sing, and dine!
This month we celebrate the 75th Texas Camp. A remarkable occasion, to be sure, but it also marks the first time in three years that we will gather, facemask-to-facemask, at our old Greene Family Camp stomping grounds. It is time to awaken the Texas Camp Dance Floor from its long 3 year slumber! Therefore, with much fanfare (or at least a mass emailing) we invite you to come from near and far (I’m looking at you, Bill Cope) to join the mighty Texas Camp Floor Crew as we transport and assemble that paragon of plywood perfection that is our dance floor. Here’s what’s involved:
The moving and assembly of the wood floor will be taking place the weekend before Texas Camp — Saturday, November 19th and Sunday, November 20th. On each of those days, we’ll need heroically inclined individuals (8+ people Saturday, 10+ people Sunday) to move and assemble the wooden dance floor. These hearty volunteers will meet at Greene Family Camp (GFC) near the Main Hall at 1:00 pm on their chosen day(s). On Saturday the floor panels and miscellaneous items are loaded onto a flatbed trailer and moved to the main dining hall, about 3 round trips. This will be much like a series of hay rides with work at each end of the rides. On Sunday the floor will be assembled inside the main dining hall. Some people with strong backs are needed, but there are plenty of jobs for everyone. If you, or a group of you, can help on either or both days, please email the Floor Czars at floor_czars@aifd.cc. We can provide additional details about the planned activities and will let you know of any changes in the schedule. Also, let us know if you’re willing to carpool or need a ride and we’ll try to coordinate this.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Your friendly neighborhood Floor Czars
P.S. If you can’t make it for setup weekend, remember we’ll also need lots of help putting the floor away when Camp ends on Sunday November 27th after lunch.
